Best workflow for using Finished VFX clips with original BMCC Cine DNG

Hi there guys.
What's the best workflow for doing final grade on Cine DNG but include replaced finished VFX shots in the process?

Current state of workflow:
Cine DNG to Resolve. Did primary corrections and Export to ProRes for Edit with PrP as NLE.
Edit in PrP.
Some ProRes clips went to AE for VFX. (Only the actual used parts according to edit is treated in AE and Rendered rendered)
VFX treated sections are replaced on the NLE (PrP) timeline.
XML exported from PrP ready for Resolve

HOWEVER: textbook workflow going back from NLE with ProRes involves you NOT selecting IMPORT REFERENCED MEDIA AUTOMATICALLY - in order to let the XML point to the CineDNG files of the project. Which is great for the CineDNG sections (but not finished VFX clips)
+ Then manually add all the VFX treated clips to the Media pool and replacing the CineDNG clips with them one by one.

The problem I'm facing is that there is a LOT of speed changes and reverse playback in order to simulate a tape stop & rewind back & forth throughout the piece. A lot of clips appear more than once but in rewind / speed changed state. Doing manual replacement will take a day. And the XML messes up with speed changes (As we're all aware of by now).

Am I left with no option but discarding the hope to include Cine DNG for all the un-touched clips and just move on grading the primed ProRes? (Ouch!)

What other workflows are out there that involves VFX replaced clips mixed with untouched raw media coming from PrP XML?

If you don't find another workflow option, maybe try converting the DNG to Cineform instead and keep it that way back into Davinci so you don't have to reference the DNG files in an XML.
