what the best configuration for the upcoming macpro
on Oct 29, 2013 at 2:17:56 pm

Hi,
I use a mac pro 2008 in my davinci resolve suite. I have a DeckLink HD Extreme 3D and my Flanders Scientific monitor. I going to change the mac with the new one. What kind of configuration need for my DeckLink or the other graphics card, like my Nvidia 4000.

Thanks.

We will list some options closer to the December availability of the Mac Pro. You won't need your existing GPU.

External Decklink card, thunderbolt enabled.
Internal D500 or D700
Plenty of Ram and 6-8 cores
External thunderbolt 2 Pegasus Raid

Looking very much forward to this :)

According the the performance figures available on Apple's website, the new 12 core MacPro will provide a great performance boost for many who are upgrading from an older 8 core Mac with a single GPU for CUDA processing but a 2010 12 core MacPro with an expansion chassis and a couple of GTX 680s or Titans will still have much better performance.

Red are now using NVidia CUDA GPUs for processing as is stated on the Reduser forum, "we are working in collaboration with Nvidia for CUDA support that should drop in October... it will be well worth the wait as internally with CUDA we see a further boost in performance." (See complete post here http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?105522-IBC-GPU-Build-REDCINE-X-... ) Obviously no CUDA capability with the MacPro's ATI Fire GPUs.

May be sensible to wait a few weeks before making the move.

I'd wait for real life tests and demos from users then you could decide
if and what.

ATI gpu is specially the case for me. Maybe just worrying to much.

The option for a expansion chassis is the best, maybe with a MacPro 2012, I don't like the idea to put more stuff over my desk.

And wait for real live test...

Thanks
