Resolve 10b and 9 on the same system?
on Oct 15, 2013 at 6:50:58 pm

Hi there, guys.
Anyone knows if it is safe to install R10b on the same system (and database) as 9? I'm itching for 10 but don't currently have 2 funtional system drives with wich to test 10b out first. Any way I can revert back to 9 after installing 10b? Does it upgrade your 9 database and leave it unaccessible by R9 after installation?

Thanks!

Easy..
STart by renaming your Resolve app into its actual numerical form.
I am running Resolve 9.1.6, so thats what I called it and dragged a new shortcut into the dock.
Then just install Resolve 10.
You will notice that it is also called Blackmagic Resolve , so go on and rename that one to Resolve 10b3 for example.
This will always prevent you from overwriting the older version.

The tricky part could be the database...the disk based one is not a problem, the projects will just show up.
Importing the old one from 9 is now also possible and I would just keep em separate.

The only annoying thing which I learned during the early beta stage is that the quicktime handlers my differ.
That results in the "powerhouse bug" which at one point prevented my from using certain QT files and also caused problems with RED files.
But since the last beta they co-exist in peace in my system.
Just be sure to use the latest Resolve 9.1.6 too

Thanks, S.
I would assume then that 9 and10b use databases in different locations? Can anyone verify their locations pls?

I prefer to just have multiple boot drives...always keep at least the one version prior as a backup until my next major update....so i can always go back and this eliminates any possible conflicts.
