Manually Entering Timecode
on Apr 16, 2013 at 5:52:03 pm

Hi,
I'm new to Resolve and so far am amazed at how intuitive it has become. One thing that I can't figure out...

In the Conform module I want to manually type in the timecode in the Source window to set in and out points. I can only drag to a specific timecode and can not type it in. Am I missing something?

Thanks.

Nope - I've been hoping for this for a while, but this is only available if you have the 30k DaVinci panels.

Although, I'm assuming that will change in Resolve 10. You can't really call it an editorial software and not be able to type in timecode.

Great Peter! I have also requested a bigger blur range last year, which will also be in v10. Thanks!

I've got one. Keyboard shortcut for on/off scopes O and one more, move the gang feature for curves out of the drop down menu on to the HUD above curves. Maybe BM already did this in 10.

That would be sweet.

This software has been gimped so heavily to sell Resolve panels it's ridiculous.

The panels used to be mandatory.

Yeah, and they still are if you want to do anything other than move your mouse around the screen all day

Oh come on... Not being able to punch in timecode on your keyboard is kind of a lack for a 1000 usd piece of software. Period! Try to critical instead of defensive...;)

The software is free!

It's funny to see how quickly we've gone from having access to software that used to cost in the order of a million dollars US... to complaining about having to spend 1/40th of that for a couple of minor features!

So should you leave something very simple out, even in the paid version? It makes no sense. And let's look forward instead of backward, like Resolve used to be a million bucks, it's not anymore, but that doesn't mean it can't be improved, right?

I'm all for improvements... Danny said "This software has been gimped so heavily to sell Resolve panels it's ridiculous."... which is in itself a ridiculous statement. Software that used to cost a million dollars is now free! If it was gimped to sell panels, I'd think they kinda screwed up the gimping when they made it free.

I agree on that, fully.

I don't think BMD will sell less panels if they would implement the timecode entering via the keyboard, sales will not drop at all. It's a minor issue.

BMD's selling points for panels are (in my opninion):

1. No more clicking thru numerous menu's (speed)
2. it looks good and thus attracts clients

I just assume the timecode thing wasn't on their priority list so far. Probably we'll see it in v10.
