nice skin tone....

Funny how some people seem to look weird and unhealthy no matter what you do while others with just a slightly different skin tone always seem to look good..... and it's not about having a tan..... I have a show with an average looking guy in it today and his skin just always looks right.... I dunno why.....

Some reading could shed some insights: Color Correction Handbook by Alexis Van Hurkman, Chapter 7.

"Memory Colors: Skin Tone, Skies, and Foliage."

Well, I'm fairly intimately familiar with it, and it is the book that an experienced colorist would want to have written...

Some people just have "layered" skin tones i.e. it consist of many colors.
Sometimes i see the ones that have some base skin tone but have some
reddish tint in it like tiny lines running across the skin.

The problem is that people are spoiled by beauty fotography and Michael Bay.
Sometimes I make a little fun with the producers and ask them if they want natural skintones or digital makeup.
The later is keying the whole range, desaturating it by 50% or more and moving the midtones towards an orangy shade that fits the surroundings.
And of course they chose the "natural" skin tones which is the heavily tempered one.
All those shades of green in the beard area , the purple blotches you encounter when grading men above 45 and the pinkyness of babies...not really appreciated.
A nice californian tan is what people normally like too see, even here in foggy Denmark

I once had a younger subject where it looked like for sure he was wearing purple eye shadow. Then I met him in person and realized he did just have weird bags under his eyes!
