iMac NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX DaVinci Resolve performance is Amazing

I'm lost for words. The performance is incredible. I haven't been able to make it dropped frames with 10 Nodes with blurs on ProRes.

Not really sure how this candle test works exactly, but i would like to test it.

I'm blown away by the performance of this iMac 27''

What specs on that iMac?

The candle test should have a clip of a parrot (SD resolution) and you simply jump through the different versions to do anywhere from 04 to 64 blur nodes. Check it out and see what you get.

I have found the parrot clip and the project.
But it has only 4 nodes with blurs.
What do you mean with jump through different version?

It's a 27'' iMac 3.4 Ghz i7 Quad Core - 1TB Fusion Drive - Nvidia GTX 680 MX 2GB - 32 GB RAM ( kingston)

Don't buy extra RAM at Apple. you can add 3th party.

When you right click the one thumbnail in the timeline you should bring up a menu where you can select 8 versions.
The noes will double every time and then Noise Reduction nodes will be added.
Switch to a version and let it play, then write down the FPS count and share with us.
I am very curious to see those numbers as my MacPro is dead now and Apple wants to replace it with an iMac.

I mean that it was in service three times now for the same reason and they acknowledge that they are unable to fix it.
They changed the main-board twice, the CPU one time and the last time they changed the logic board in the cinema display.
Who am I to tell them that it must the be the capacitors in the PSU...just because my TV had the exact same problem ;)
The computer does not wake up from sleep properly and I have to shut it down...all work is lost.
It also needs two boot attempts every single time.

Anyway, because the MacPro is officially not on sale anymore in Europe there are talks about offering me an iMac instead.
So I would like to see the numbers of the Standard Candle test if possible.

ProRes 422 1920x1080 25fps

I've tested BMC RAW footage as well.
I get full playback with 5 blur nodes......On an iMac.

Sweet.

Indeed. Hook up a Thunderbolt Ultrastudio Express for SDI and HDMI monitoring and you're good to go.

Would love to hear what happens when you really push this system to the limits..... 2k and even 4k material...

I'm not expecting realtime playback with multiple blur nodes but wondering if it is usuable or becomes overwhelmingly laggy, beachballs etc....

Nice. Was that ProRes 422 (HQ)?

We're about to purchase one, but Apple asks for 6 weeks.
Any one having good experiences with Hackinstoshs?
Please post the candle or other tests so we can all compare!
By the way, our 2011 iMac w/6970 does perform decently. Not able to face a propper MacPro but fine for work without a client (and no CUDA!)

just got mine...3.2 i5 and i'm totally converted....even my old tower from 2 years ago struggled with more than 2 nodes but his thing just flies through media...i used to do the rendering in pro res 1920X1080 and let it run overnight but now by the time i've made a coffee this thing is done! never thought i'd say this but WOW......if i could just resize the windows now i would be in colorist heaven...

A question for iMac 27 (2013) users ; is there any overheat issue on it using resolve ?
