I'm in post on a documentary. Our budget is basically gone. Luckily I'm an editor by trade but I really don't know a lot about color. I know the basics and I've explored many techniques. Mainly variations of levels, curves, colorista and the like inside of after effects and photoshop. I also believe that you get what you pay for so I would rather attempt to learn myself than hire someone off of craigslist for deferred pay.
So my question is: Are their any good web resources about the technical side of color. Not necessarily tutorials on applications but how do I know when I have it right. When the whites are perfect and the blacks are perfect. How do I find a neutral gray in a shot that may not be shot perfectly? That kind of stuff.
