Davinci Resolve GPU .. Need suggestions
on Nov 12, 2012 at 8:22:34 pm

my company ordered a new complete setup for a new workflow
included a mac pro machine for Color work Davinci Resolve Software

4 PCI slot

1 ATI Radeon HD 5870 Graphics card
2 Deck link 3D extreme 4K
3 fiberchannel card

we still have available slot
my question
what graphic card will be better if we add it and why ?
Note : total number of Auxiliary PCIe power connection is no more than 2 and no more one of these cards requires double-width slot

i already had suggestion for Nvidia Quadro 4000 in the second slot
i also heard the denoiser in davinci resolve doesn't work without Nvidia card

anybody recommend me whats really good to do ?

as mentioned In Davinci resolve config guide
we must ensure that total number of auxiliary power connections is no more than 2

and GTX 570 have 2 Auxiliary power 2
and Q4000 is also 2

i wanna ask if i used ATI Radeon 5870 + Nvidia Q4000
and i install Cuda
will i lost the feature of denoise ?

am really confused and i wanna know what is the best cards to have

You got the answers already...
GTX 570 or 680.

forget the 2 aux , you need a Y-splitter and all is well.
Sure, it helps not to use the ATi cards are they are also power hungry.
I am running a Quadro 4000 and a GTX 470 for a year now without probs.
Are you building a home system ? Thats your aim then.
Is it for professional work, get a Cubix, no more headache, no splitting, no problems and almost unlimited power.

i've already ordered the ATI 5870
you telling me to cancel this order ? can you confirm it to me ?
that the 570 and 4000 will be better than the ATI and the Q4000 ?

and if i can't cancel that order what will i do ?

So you need definitely external expander like cubix

BM suggests a lot different setup for that i think - linux i bet.

This is what the Linux Resolve configs were meant for.

[ahmed aborady] "Its professional workflow for production company we just need to run 4k media realtime through the SAN "

Then trying to do this on a MacPro mainframe will be frustrating, especially with the ATI card. There are also some advantages to even running the Q4000 as the UI GPU and a better CUDA card as the grade processor. Best is an XPander with as many CUDA cores as you can afford... the cards offered as options in the previous threads are not idle threats. If you are running 4K R3D RAW, then unless you intend to operate at quarter-res-good, then a Rocket card will also be in your future.

The config guide is a real source of distilled wisdom and should not be ignored if you want repeatable results.

Keep in mind that 4K will require GPUs with at least 3G of RAM.
