UltraScope and Thunderbolt / Sonnet xMac Mini Server?

An interesting low cost, small footprint solution we're looking at for setting up Ultrascope is this:

http://sonnettech.com/product/xmacminiserver.html

However, the Sonnet website says that the PCIe cards used have to be Thunderbolt Compatible and in on their compatibility page it lists most BMD video cards as being compatible but the Ultrascope card is not listed:

http://sonnettech.com/support/charts/thunderbolt/index.html

Anyone know if this an oversight on Sonnet's part or would the Ultrascope card not work in the PCIe slots on this server due to Thunderbolt incompatibility?

Paul

Have you looked at Scopebox on a Mini with a Ultrastudio 3D Thunderbolt? allows for 444 2K scopes and no PCIe needed. I sold my Ultrascope and setup a scopebox machine instead with a Decklink card.

Hi Robert,

What is the config on your scopebox machine and video i/o? Do you regularly do 2K 444? Thanks for pointing me towards the product, I think it might be exactly what I need for the moment...

I am currently running it on a Mac-Pro with a Decklink HD card as 4:2:2 but I am planning to pick up a UltraStudio 3D for my 17" Macbook Pro to try out 444 scopes.

According to Mike at Divergent Scopebox is resolution independent and V3 will scope full 444 signals.

Been trying this out for the last couple days. The setup is Mac Mini + Ultrastudio 3D + Scopebox 3.

Successfully handled 1920x1080 signals in 422 single link, and 444 dual-link and 3G.

Successfully handled 2048x1556 signals in dual-link and 3G, at 23.98 and 24 (didn't test 25 but it's an option).

The only surprise was the Ultrastudio doesn't take in 2048x1080 signals, only 2048x1556. So from resolve you have to output at 2048x1556, probably letterboxing. Not a huge deal, but seems backwards.
