R9b2 messes up colors when rendering R3D
on Aug 15, 2012 at 4:24:46 am

Hi there I was wondering if anyone else has been Gavin this issue:

When I render some R3D files I get some high and low luminance areas of my image turn either yellow or blue. I am using my MacBook pro 17' SSD 512 8Gb Ram.

I was also wondering if there was a way to take the R9r2 project back to resolve 8.2.2.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate any help

What format are you rendering to, and what's your Mac OS version?

Probably your display was clipping to white before..
Try lowering your light level, does the same happen ?
If so, make sure your highlights outside the visible range are still neutral with a highlight dasaturation node.

A slice of color...

I thought this might be the case too, clipping. But its strange because it happens on both shadows and highlights. I will soften the highlight clipping and the lows too and see if it works. Thanks for the advise an I will let you know how it went.

Thanks again

Any idea on getting my project back to 8.2.2?

I'm rendering to ProRes 4444 and am using the latest version of snow leopard. I'm using R3D from an Epic. I'm using an external FireWire 800 drive to pull the images from there.

Gino

Is that the 2011 Macbook Pro17" with an ATI card?

Blackmagic has acknowledged there is a issue with OpenCL rendering in R9 on Lion 10.7.4. I see the same issue. the only fix right now is to set your render speed to 1%.

Hopefully they will fix this soon, as it ruins my on set Dailies workflow.

Matt

Updating to Mountain Lion is the currently preferred OpenCL fix.

Although I just read that there is apparently a Lion 10.7.5 release that will happen, and maybe the OpenCL issue will be fixed in that?

Hi Dwaine, thanks for the info, is this issue fixed with release of Beta 3?

Thanks again

Ahh that's it then. I was really frustrated rendering clips. Thanks for letting me know Matt. Hope this gets solved soon because I was starting to like version 9 and now i had to go back to 8.2.2.
