Record to tape with source timecode?
on Aug 11, 2012 at 10:33:00 am

Is that possible with Resolve? How to setup deck for this mode?
Thanks

Hi,
that can be done with the taperecorder.
Check TC-setup of the recorder. Assuming it's a Sony: switch to RP-188 (not sure abaout the numbar, but close to that). That will force the recorder to use and apply the TC from source to tape.

Ok, it's hdcam hdw-m2000 or digibeta dvw-a500. RP-188 is just a spec, I need more info how to do that both with decks and resolve.

I don't know how deep the menus will let you go on the DVW, but you should be able to set the time code to "external" and perhaps there is a way of porting the source code out of your SDI card that isn't your main timeline base timecode.

On the HDCam deck you should be able to select "external" as well, and pick the code imbedded in the SDI feed.

Hi,

if I remember rightly the option 'externe TC' switches to the analog 'extern TC-in' of the VTR, but so far I see, the Decklink does not provide TC-out.
Switch to RP-188 is the option to get the embedded TC from source (but I fear the pvw-500 doesn't provide it)

Other easy (but more time consumption) way is to set the VTR-TC to intern preset. Record black + TC to tape (crashrecord, set TC to preset + rec-run), then use the RS-422 deckcontrol for TC-exact edit (insert-mode, video + audio).
Or use assemble-mode on VTR with deckcontrol, first record with crashrecord to desired TC (switch TC-mode to preset + record-run) then switch to regen + free-run and edit your source to tape.

I forgot to bespeak that I never have done that with decklink (only vtr to vtr, or with controller).
So first thing to check is, if the decklink is able to act as a player (slave) with externel master (vtr).
If not: rp188 + crash record on vtr is the way.

First of all thank you for clarification.
I also find that digibeta can't operate in this mode. For hdcam i setup TCG to extrenal and tc in to SDI. In resolve deck control i set recording mode to assembly (power master) select output source timecode for timeline, gang time codes, and select output LTC but when i hit record deck won't start preroll. Do i need to crash record on tape timecode similar to first clip source timecode in power mastering timeline first?

[Nikola Stefanovic] "Do i need to crash record on tape timecode similar to first clip source timecode in power mastering timeline first?"

Yes!

First edit on tape is only with crashrecord possible!
Set desired tc in internal+ preset+rec run mode.

check out page 48 in the new Resolve 9 beta manual.
There is provision for outputing source code to tape in assemble mode.
