Default working directory
on Aug 9, 2012 at 1:07:46 am

Every time I create a new project it sets the default working directory to a RAID that was taken out of service at least a year ago- but must still exist in some menu somewhere, because it becomes the default directory. It though resolve was SUPPOSED to default to the top drive in the list media pool list, but it never does that. How do I force it to pick the correct drive for the default working folder? (not a huge issue - I can change it by hand once the software points out that default drive doesn't exist, but would be nice not to see that.)

Is the drive you have selected in Preferences the one Resolve is looking for? Is this the drive at the top of the media library list?
Are you on v9, which OS?

Peter

Hey Peter
Thanks for looking into this. I'm on OSx 10.7.3, Now Resolve 9 beta 2.

When creating a new project, the 'working folders' are always set to a RAID that was removed from my system well over a year ago. That raid does not appear in the media pool or anywhere else that I can find. I can change the directory to the drive I want - but I can't figure out how to set it so it defaults to the correct directory.

The incorrect drive is in the default project, which I cannot save, but can only 'Save As'

Should I start a new database? I'm sure this is an operator error of some kind, and not a huge deal since the first time I grab a still I get a window reminding me to change to a valid drive, but, still...

The DEFAULT behavior is to use the first volume specified in the Resolve Preferences Media Storage area. However, that can be overridden by manually selecting a different path in the General Options Working Folders area. And manual selections made there can be stored in user configs, or as they are now called, Presets. So it would seem the preset you are using (likely your default preset) has the path selection saved in it that you don't want. Just change the Working Folders paths to be what you want, and save the preset. Or make a new preset. You can right click on any of the presets to make them the default preset.

Yes, I have a user preset - and it looks like that's where it's coming from. I'm having a little trouble change the user preset, but I'm sure I'll figure that out. Thanks Dwaine!

That worked - the default user preset was updated with the correct drive, now new projects get that drive. Thanks for the explanation.

Tried your suggestion but my manual change in the path will not stick. I change the path/ hit apply/ and it reverts back to the original path. What gives? (The directory I renamed is BMC-Test. No mater what I do I cannot rename the Cache or the Gallery files)

You need to make the C: level an accessible device by adding it in the storage list.
