Slow Performance on GTX 285 (GUI) + GTX 580 3gb Combo (Cubix)

Hey guys, wasn't sure whether to post this here or the new configuration forum, so I'll start here til someone yells at me :)

I just upgraded a MAC system from a GT120+GTX285+GTX285 configuration (using cubix expander), to a GTX285(GUI)+GTX580(EVGA PC Version, nonflashed 3gb) combo. My standard candle tests actually ended up dropping with a single 580 compared to 2x285's. I'm not sure why, and hoping someone might have an insight here.

Old System:
MacPro 8core 2.26 Nehalem 24gb RAM (OSX 10.6.8)
Slot 1 - GT120
Slot 2 - cubix
Slot 3 - Decklink 3D
Slot 4 - RocketRaid 4322
Cubix 1 - GTX285 (1gb VRAM)
Cubix 2 - GTX285 (1gb VRAM)
Cubix 3 - Red Rocket
Cubix 4 - Empty

New System:
MacPro 8 core 2.26 Nehalem 24gb RAM (OSX 10.7.4, AGPM kext removed)
Slot 1 - GTX285
Slot 2 - cubix
Slot 3 - Decklink 3D
Slot 4 - RocketRaid 4322
Cubix 1 - GTX580 (3gb VRAM, PC Version, non-flashed)
Cubix 2 - Empty
Cubix 3 - Red Rocket
Cubix 4 - Empty

Candle Tests:
GT120+2xGTX285 System
V1 2 nodes : 24 fps
V2 4 nodes : 24 fps
V3 6 nodes : 24 fps
V4 12 nodes : 19.5 fps (9 Nodes in Realtime)
V5 NR 4 : 24 fps
V6 NR 3 : 24 fps
V7 NR 2 : 15 fps
V8 NR 1 : 4.5 fps

GTX285+GTX580 System
V1 2 nodes : 24 fps
V2 4 nodes : 24 fps
V3 6 nodes : 24 fps
V4 12 nodes : 16.5 fps (8 Nodes in Realtime)
V5 NR 4 : 24 fps
V6 NR 3 : 24 fps
V7 NR 2 : 14 fps
V8 NR 1 : 4 fps

Any ideas here? I'm stumped. I suppose I just need to add another GTX580 for better performance. I just assumed 1x580 would be better than 2xGTX285's (and I gained the 3gb ram as well). Should I give David Pirinelli a call and have it flashed maybe? Thanks all.

This looks correct to me. 1 580 = 2 x 285 approx.

Just get another 580 and you'll have double the performance.

Yeah, I guess I had just expected having 512 cuda cores (in the 580) would lead to faster performance than the total 480 in the 2xGTX285's right? I guess in this case, two slower cards are better than 1?

There is an archecture difference between the two cards (actually two architecture revisions between them) and just as the gtx680 with 3x the number of cores as a 580 doesn't perform 3x faster, the core to performance relationship is not a linear one.
