Appending nodes simultaineously to multiple clips
on May 30, 2012 at 4:01:10 pm

Hi all,

Quick question:

What are the best ways to append a set of additional nodes simultaineously to MULTIPLE clips that already have nodes?

I have my sequence graded and now need to add tints on a scene-by-scene basis and don't want to have to go clip-by-clip within each scene.

In Apple Color one could select multiple clips and drag a Secondary or a Primary Out onto the selected clips and all the selected clips would receive that secondary or PO.

Looking for a similar functionality in Resolve.

Thanks!
John

Thank you Joseph!

I will RTFM re "group". (Sometimes it's just a matter of knowing the correct terminology.)

I assume appending nodes to grouped clips will not overwrite the existing nodes on the individual clips.

[John Pilgrim] "I assume "

You know the ass/u /me breakdown. I am not in the practice of using groups, so I don't know.

It might be slow, but I prefer to call up the node graph and paste a common node where I need to, if there is a requirement to "add a layer" to a scene. I couldn't honestly tell you if the grade "unifies" when you "group" clips, and it would be interesting to know if the "overall" node might have different effects within a clip if there is a different hierarchy in some of the corrections.

I would recommend doing this via the track graph and animation on/off at the start/end of each scene.

I grade 5 30 minute television episodes a week (using groups) and unless they are grouped before the grade and have exactly the same grade on them we have had many issues with it overwriting nodes in the tree on random clips.

It becomes very difficult and unwieldy to do this and entire scene changes I have found it much easier to do this via the track

There is a node ripple function which lets you ripple the current node to a range a clips by appending the node to the end of the graphs. This is currently possible only on the Resolve Control Surface though.

I think it is -,+ Shift Up + Ripple, or maybe Shift Down + Ripple. Instead of -,+, you can of course use, , + Ripple
