DOLBY Monitor Test !!!
on Apr 25, 2012 at 9:11:10 am

I have a chance to test dolby.
I found that I can not output XYZ with MAC.
If I wanna work in XYZ, Do I have to use LINUX?

So If I use mac for resolve, I still need work on REC 709, and don't need Dolby?

I'm afraid so. Or, you can apply an XYZ output LUT in Resolve, but it will apply itself to the video in the GUI too, so using the Viewer won't be possible, if you're into doing that.

the dolby the by far the BEST monitor i ever seen .

I thought that with the decklink 4K card is possible feed XYZ (but only Linux?)

ps: if your work is rec 709 , there no really need to feed XYZ

I believe the decklink 4k cards will allow xyz, though I don't know if this will work on v8.2 or only in v9.

Have not been impressed with Dolby Ref monitor.

juan really ?

did you have a chance to see it properly ? (dark room etc...)

to me it really is the only LCD with deep blacks , but that looks soft , and the possibility to change colorspaces on the fly is amazing ,

i have seem many around at NAB and i was not that impressed , than i had a demo (still NAB) in light controlled room and i have to say that looked the yes i ever seen

+ i stem only monitor that cover P3 space for real DCP delivery work

I agree, it's one of the best, if not the best LCD. But it's still definitely LCD.

Functionally it rocks. Broad format support, the menu is nuts.

But I'd take a Sony OLED over it any day. The BVM e&f both do 100% p3 as well.

And for the $, you could get 8 FSi 2461s which do about 92% of what the Dolby does.

If you're grading p3 you need to be using projection regardless. As that is your destination medium and how you should be grading.

so, like I said... Dolby is nice, but I'm not that impressed. Big appeal is its shadow detail, any oled blows it out of the water there.

Have you seen the Sony PVM 2541 25" "Cheap" OLED? I was wondering about it compared to a Panny 300 Plasma. Obviously the Sony is more portable...

I have it, and use it as my primary grade monitor for 709. I love it, and the BT300 is also quite nice.

The only downside with the PVM is the limited viewing angle. I consider it strictly for operator use, a client would have a hard time looking at it and seeing an accurate image due to the narrow angle. But otherwise LOVE it.

I thought that oled had the advantage of wide viewing angles and high DR without the noise of plasma. I will have to go look at one.

It's not an issue of off angle contrast as with LCD. But rather color, it shifts, or rather your perception of it shifts as you move away from center. You'll need to see for yourself.

I found it useless for my situation; most of the time just me in the room - but more often one or more heads next to mine. I went with the Autocue T-series. Haven't looked back.

We had the same experience with the OLED and sadly had to send em back.
The contrast and black level is unmatched.
The OLED is more black than any LCD being turned off :)
But with 20 degree left and right of the center , you have like 80cm in 1,5 m distance.
That is as close as being shoulder on shoulder.
Left from that it turns green, right from that it turns purple.
Not usable for more than one guy.
Perfect operator screen, not for clients.

A slice of color...
