slice x blur mask fcp x issues
on Aug 4, 2013 at 1:29:33 am

Hi,
I am trying to hand animate a simple mask to blur shadows under someones eyes. whenever I try and animate the mask the actual blurred shape is offset from the mask itself.
I am using fcpx 10.09.
Is this a known bug or am I doing something wrong? Is there a setting to offset the effect from the mask? The color correct mask seem to be working ok and the blur worked fine on another clip.
I have deleted the filter and started again numerous time. not ideal obviously.
The color correction masks and another instance of the blur mask worked fine on other clips in the same project
Thanks in advance
Sean

We aren't aware of this problem. Whats different about this single clip? Can you let us know what the clip codec setting is and what the project setting is?

If you place this clip alone in a new project does it still happen?

HI Roger,
thanks for your reply.
The clip codec is apple pro res 720 24P.
All clips where transcoded before putting into fcp x and I'm editing and rendering my project native to the media.
Yes it does seem to do the same if I put the same clip in a separate project.

I spend 30 minutes keyframing the mask and then the blur is applied nowhere near where the mask shows.
It's not ideal, particularly at 4am last night UK time!
Sorry for the late reply I am on a tight deadline so will have to do it in motion or AE I guess.
Pity as I purchased the plugins just to avoid this scenario as it's a very complex edit and thus I wanted to keep it in FCP if possible.
Seems strange as the masks on the colour correctors in the same project all seem fine.
Once I have the deadline out the way I can probably try and help you get to the bottom of it, as generally slice x is really super useful!
Best regards
Sean

you can email us at support at coremelt dot com

can you please tell us if the clip was a different frame rate to the project? Eg was it a 24P project?

HI Roger,
yes it is all media and project is 24P.
I'll send you a quick framegrab now.
Offset seems consistent so I've worked out a workaround for now as on a tight deadline.
I'll have more time to help get to the bottom of it once this edit is out the way.
deadline tomorrow!
Best
Sean
