Lock & Load FCP 10.1.4 won't stabiize first 6-8 seconds of 1080p50 clips in Timeline Project

Hi,

Lock & Load is everything that the FCP X should have been. I'm very pleased with the stabilizing results I get.

However, I seem to have one game spoiler problem. I have sent a report to CoreMelt support but I thought I'd post here, too, for feedback from anyone with a similar problem.

I apply Lock & Load to contiguous 1080p50 clips in a timeline project in FCP 10.1.4, OS 10.9.5. After rendering, the first six to eight seconds are still unstabilized – I can see a (very small) 'zoom in' jump in the image when the stabilization cuts in after 6–8 seconds and the result becomes perfect.

But these first unstabilized sections of contiguous clips are obviously not intended behaviour.

I would greatly appreciate any help to track down the cause of this problem.

Kind regards,

Joachim Smith

Hello,

is the video optimized? If not, could you please try if optimizing changes the behavior?
If you increase the clip's in time, does the unstabilized portion shrink?
Can you please check the system log for possible error messages during tracking?

Regards, Eberhard

Hello Eberhard,

Thank you for your fast response!

1) The video, originally AVCHD, is optimised and imported into FCPX as ProRes 422.

2) There seems to be some slight, non-linear correspondance between clip length and the length of the initial 'non-stabilized' part – a 30 second clip has 6 seconds not stabilized and a 6 minute clip had the first 9 seconds non-stabilized.

3) In the Console, I found a lot of these:
10/3/15 14:51:22,411 Final Cut Pro[87158]: CoreAnimation: warning, deleted thread with uncommitted CATransaction; set CA_DEBUG_TRANSACTIONS=1 in environment to log backtraces.

also a lot of these:
10/3/15 17:24:41,651 Final Cut Pro[87158]: ERROR:
time: {INVALID}
timecode mode: ProSMPTETimecodeMode_23976Duration
frame rate: 23.976024 frames per second
audio frame rate: 0 audio frames per second
SMPTE 272M sequence phase frame: 0
film type: ProFilmType_16mm
tempo: 0.000000 beats per minute
0/0 time initialized with non-numeric figTime. Using kFigTimeZero instead.

and finally four of these (the only ones mentioning L&L):
0x11698d000 - 0x1169bafff com.pixlock.fcpx.LocknLoad.fxplug 1.2.1 (87) (1.2.1 (87)) <5372E32C-53F4-38CD-9BDF-6D6B5F6C6FE4> /Applications/CoreMelt/Lock & Load for FCP X.app/Contents/PlugIns/LocknLoadXPC.pluginkit/Contents/PlugIns/LocknLoad.fxplug/Contents/MacOS/LocknLoad

---

I should add that the Project in which I tried to stabilize a number of clips was finished, with colour corrections already added, but no previous plug-ins.

However, I created a new Library with the contiguous ProRes 422 master file I had made a couple of days earlier, made a number of cuts in the video – and got no 'non-stabilized' aberrations.

So, there seems to be something funny with the fact that the original project had been worked on, colour corrected and rendered?

OTOH, it would be a bit of a letdown if I couldn't bring up an old Project and stabilize selected clips in it, but had to make and import a master and then render it, after stabilization, to a new master, wouldn't it?

I hope the above is of some help in getting to the core of this…

Kind regards,

Joachim

The log messages don't seem to be related. Below the "Track Motion" button does it show "Tracking Data Ok" in green?
Can you please press the Option key while you click on "Track Motion". This will write some diagnostic information to the log. Can you please send this to me at eberhard (at) coremelt.com

Hello Eberhard,

Just wanted to check that you did get, the hopefully correct, log printouts that I sent last night. ;-)

Kind regards,

Joachim

I got it, but it's an analysis report. Can you please press the Option button when you click on "Track Motion" and then look into the system log for the printed message from FCP X. Please send me this message.

Regards, Eberhard

Sorry, I don't know my way around the Console that well – it's largely foreignt territory to me.

I do option-click on the green text "Tracking Data OK". Could you give me some more exact hints what to look for in the Console? Like a string to search for, or something, please?

The only item I can see that is added in the System log when I do the above is this:

Mar 11 12:28:33 joachims-mbp.lan Final Cut Pro[585]: media: 0, 1, 633072330, 720000, clipped: 1532500, 5000, 839700, 5000, track: 220680000, 720000, 120916800, 720000

Kind regards,

Joachim

Please Option-click on the "Track Motion" button - not on the green text.
Then you'll see a longer message from FCP X. Please send this to my email address.

After patient work by Eberhard of CoreMelt (thank you again, Eberhard!) the problems I described above turned out to be caused by my applying L&L on synchronised clips in FCP X – in other words, clips that had been synched with audio recorded separately.

I also learned that I can't have connected clips on the clip I try to stabilise.

From a workflow POW, this is a bit of a bummer. What I have to do in my case is to render a master ProRes 422 file of the Project (sequence), re-import it, cut it up around the scenes I need to stabilise and finally, after stabilisation (which is awesome) render a new Master file.

I suppose that these limitations are based on the internal structure of FCP X, so, have to be accepted.

Again, I'm very happy with my purchase of L&L – it's the way best stabiliser I've used so far.

Kind regards,

Joachim
