Book recommendations on creative editing

Hi all!

I am looking for some interesting reads on the theory and art of editing.

If possible i would be very interested in the practice pertaining to advertising.

I work as an editor for a company that does all of its advertising in house and i have not really been exposed to a wide variety of projects.

any resources that would help expand my horizons would be greatly appreciated!

On film editing, you might consider
Technique of Film Editing by Reiz and Millar. A classic work; old, but covers all of the essential ground both in traditional narrative styles and in more recent and experimental approaches. Very relevant today. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Technique-Film-Editing-Karel-Reisz/dp/0240514378

For advertising, Ogilvy on Advertising is also still an interesting piece .... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ogilvy-Advertising-David/dp/1853751960

Or in a more visual media approach you might try leafing through the likes of

"In The Blink Of An Eye" by Walter Murch and "The Conversations: Walter Murch and the Art of Editing Film" by Michael Ondaatje are still at the top of my list for craft editing, and I would second "Ogilvy On Advertising" as the must-read book on the subject.

I second the recommendation of "The Conversations" with Walter Murch. A fascinating read, not to be missed. Murch is the great philospher of film editing. A perhaps more down to earth book is "The Lean Forward Moment" by Norman Hollyn. Lots of great ideas in there.
