Keying/Matte problem

Hey

I was wondering if it was possible to use a matte or a key to matte out motion footage on fcp or possibly motion that doesnt have a greenscreen.

For example if I had footage of someone walking down the street and just wanted to cut them out.

How would I go about doing this?

Thanks

Jon

There was a tutorial somewhere, either here on Creative Cow, or on the Avid discussion group, which described exactly that on Avid.
It was based on using the difference matte on the Boris Effects Composite effects.
Do a search for that, maybe there's a FC equivalent.

Good luck

Some enjoy rotoscoping so much, they'd rather mask and track than lay down the green screen. ;)
Hop into AE, draw your mask and start keyframing.

This is called "Rotoscoping".

You will need to draw a matte to cut the foreground out of the background and adjust it for every frame. If you Google "Rotoscope" you'll find some tutorials and software to help you.

Silhouette Roto would be the best app for this, BTW.

Hi Jon,
found the tutorial that hopefully describes what you want:

http://library.creativecow.net/articles/saleh_ra-ey/difference_matte.php

It worked really well.

Hope it works for you

Juris
