Your Superbowl spot opinions here

Surprised to not find such a thread here yet, let's make this the one.

My faves:
Clydesdale colt, Dove, Fedex caveman, Mastercard Macgyver.
Pans: Pizza Hut, Pepsi, Ameriquest, Burger King, Escalade.
The biggest common error I saw, particularly in the car spots, was a lot of showmanship but no connection to the product, you did'nt link the name to the spot.

Good game. Bad announcing by ABC. I wish the Seahawks hadn't cut their offense off with penalties.
My friends in and from Pittsburgh are happy.

Faves: Michelob Amber touch football, Bud Light bear and sheep, Ford Escape green (you gotta love Kermit) and Full Throttle (some great hardware on the street).
Disliked: Escalade, Honda Ridgeline (a fwd pickup with mudflaps?), Pizza Hut, Burger King.

Nice try to Degree but a little too far over the top. I would have hated the Jerome Bettis Asthma spot had it not been for Asthma sufferers and I guess that's why they could rip the Mean Joe Green spot and still get me to feel good.

A lot of hard work from the editors/compositors on many spots but they can only edit what they're given. A bad concept still ends up like a gold leafed meadow muffin.

" I wish the Seahawks hadn't cut their offense off with penalties."

what you are referring to is the bias officiating that went on throughout the game. vegas won the superbowl.

hummer had a pretty good spot, the bud light magic fridge was pretty dang funny, and the fedex cave man was good. the burger king spot got funny towards the end, but that is the luxury of a :60. overall, i thought the spots got a little better this year. the public is being weaned of janet jacksons boob.

[person] " vegas won the superbowl"

Vegas did come out well, as usual they made approximately 10% considering that they make their money on the Vig, and that adds up by volume, there was approximately $94 million bet in Vegas, and the sports books profits were reported at $8.8 million. Keep in mind, Vegas doesn't care who wins or loses, their winnings are not based on that. Why do you think the line fluctuates, they want the bets to be as close to 50-50 as they can get. That way they won't lose big if the game doesn't go as anticipated. I wish people would get this straight, and not blame Vegas for everything they are unhappy with in sports.

I personally felt the overall commercial quality was down this year, although there were some big winners. Budweiser always does well, they ROCK. FedEx was good, I liked the Sprint Crime deterent, that cracked me up. My main thoughts are that for $2.5 million per 30 seconds, many agencies are more interested in getting their mini-movies on the air than actually selling a product.

The only one I remember was the one where the lady on the plane got her dress caught on the tray table and found herself straddling the other male passenger. I was surprised at the non-family friendly nature of this spot, given the previously mentioned boob incident. I think the spot was for insurance, but I could not tell you which company.
I guess after the Katrina and other storms last year the insurance companies want to appear to be good natured.

See, that's why those spots, as funny as they are, are a failure: they are for an investment company, and you don't even remember it's name.

There was this really loooong spot in the middle of the game, with all these old people singing and playing guitars? I don't remember the client but I'm guessing the AARP.

I was just joking -- I enjoyed the Stones show, and the whole game, all the spots, except for the new Lorne Michaels "Family" promos, which were painful. The only laugh I got from those was when they said the new show was unscripted, which must have been a writer's subtle jab.

But I had a thought about the officiating: there is better talent out there. If you've ever worked with headphones on in a broadcast truck, you notice that before the refs even get their hankies out, somebody in the director/producer area is yelling into his headset, "[Camera] 4 get 87," meaning, the refs are about to call a penalty on #87, and I want a close-up of his reaction to getting caught. Those folks in the truck are QUICK, and usually right on.
