the art of editing a feature film: workflow, tips, & philosophy?
on Jan 12, 2006 at 10:41:23 am

I'm looking for some links to tips on workflow and philosophy of editing a feature film. i'm in foreign lands with no access to purchasing books, so any web-based info would be greatly appreciated. a detailed account of the process of editing a feature film would be sweet. organization, media management, workflow, the craft, philosophy, ideas ...

the project's an HD feature. final cut pro.

peace to the COW. thanks.

Do a google search with words that you just used to describe what you were looking for.

Also, search for Walter Murch and Sean Cullen - they've used Final Cut on their last two features (Cold Mountain and Jarheads) and there is a lot of info on the web on how they did it. Jarheads interesting as they down rezed to 720p for editing.

Check out this link on the Apple website on Jarhead - some very useful info:

The Editors Guild magazine has some articles that might be useful as well:

And while you're looking around the web, here's my interview with Walter Murch:

Also a ton of good workflow material on http://www.24p.com.
