That's a bummer that his vision kind of got damaged, but I give him a big thumbs up for realizing that he would look like a copycat, and doing something about it. I have high hopes for this new X-Men movie, and it would have been terrible if the main focus was on how it was an Inception clone.
Shooting on a gimballed set is nothing new - we just don't see it very often outside of an airplane or spaceship set.
It would have been cool if Inception did similar things on a set that is not a hotel corridor or elevator shaft (boxes that can be rotated) but rather on a city street or other location that would be more of a trick to pull off. Maybe X-Men United can try that.
