I saw The Great Beauty yesterday and its afterglow is coloring my world today. I can't stop thinking about it.

The protagonist of The Great Beauty, a writer-turned "Vanity Fair-like" journalist, has wasted his time attending cocktail parties of the upper crust of Italy for decades, and after his 65th birthday, realizes that he's been riding a glittery train to nowhere and feels emptiness. And throughout there are numerous references to religion and its spiritual emptiness, too.

I said too much, and yes, it's Fellini-esque, but to me it's the cinema equivalent of Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. The Great Beauty is the bow-stroke that will resonate with the strings of creative people's hearts.

Yes, please elaborate. I had this on my Oscar picks and never saw it, but I really want to catch up on these.

I have heard comparisons to "8&1/2" regarding the visuals for this film.
