Check out the article on Roger Ebert in the latest Esquire, you can find it free online. What an awesome dude he remains.

I read elsewhere that as Roper decided it was time to fold up the show, there was talk of donating the "balcony" set to the Smithsonian, and Roger was excited about the idea.

Then he's passing the studios a few days later and sees the set has been torn apart and tossed in an alley dumpster.

That balcony story made me sad... I think the right thing to do with anything like that is to AT LEAST sell it for charity. I'd buy a seat from that balcony for $100. People love buying random set props, and the money could go to something good, as opposed to going in a landfill.

That was a really good article on Ebert. It's awesome that he can still be so passionate while going through so much.
