I just saw a documentary called The King of Kong and liked it a lot. It's about setting the King Kong world record and I don't think I've ever cared about someone else's video game score until I saw this. I think they did a great job of telling this story in a way that you cared about the people involved. It is worth the rent. When Steve Wiebe first breaks the record and you hear his kid screaming in the background it is so funny.
Yea, love this film. Just showed it to my wife over the weekend who could care less about video games and she loved it! A great documentary will make you enjoy the movie regardless of the subject matter (I love Riding Giants but don't enjoy surfing).
King of Kong achieved greatness by great storytelling, drawing an emotional connection to Steve and making us care greatly about his journey, and by all of these unique characters in this rich subculture.
