Two Great Documentaries

I watched Man on Wire and Riding Giants over the weekend and enjoyed both of them very much. (Warning on Man on Wire, it has some nudity at the end) Two great films that have very different editing styles...however they both have one thing in common. They both used Gymnopédies - Gymnopédie No.1 for a song near the end of the film. Worked for both of them. If you haven't seen them be sure to check them out.

[Stephen Smith] "They both used Gymnopédies "

I prefer Gymkata...

Just kidding!!!

I've actually been dying to see both docos. Great idea, as it's suddenly raining in sunny Southern California.

[Stephen Smith] "okay, you made me laugh so hard my stomach hurts right now."

You know how sometimes you come upon a cow in a filed that's so still you don't whether it's sleeping or not?

Well, you passed the test... You're awake. I was just testing...

I loved "Man on Wire". At the time Pettite took his walk between the towers, my mother was the librarian at a high school in the area. She was one of those people who looked up & saw him as she was on her way into work.

Big fan of Riding Giants, anxious to see Man on Wire. Have you seen Dogtown and Z Boys? Stacy Peralta did it before Riding Giants on the pioneering of the skateboarding scene in SoCal, which is even more interesting because Stacy is one of the subject matters. Not Riding Giants, but still a great doc.

I just last week got to see "Man On Wire" recorded off IFC channel. Brilliantly told, shot, and edited. Expert blend of storytelling methods. One of the ultimate documentaries of all time, IMO.

Spoiler:
The first girl he bedded after le coup was NOT the long-suffering and supportive girlfriend!?Q!?!? WTF? Must be a French thing.
