Frame Rates used on music videos shot on film in the 80s
on Mar 28, 2012 at 11:04:51 am

I'm about to take delivery of lots of film rushes from the 80s (35mm neg and prints) but don't know until I look at them what frame rate they will have been shot at. The rushes are from music videos shot in the UK, Europe, and potentially some from the US.

Was it standard to shoot music videos at 24 fps? Or did people go with other frame rates? 25/30 etc.

Any and all help much appreciated.

Joss

If it's on film, it's 24fps.
No one shot film at 30fps until Miami Vice came along. Even after they proved this to be a great way to shoot film and post on NTSC tape at 29.97, it didn't see widespread use and most film continued to be shot at 24 even if the target was TV/video.
