The Dark Night Rises Teaser Trailer

I figure we should join the rest of the internet and feature this trailer here too! :)

Lots of old footage from the first two films, but the last shot with Bane was pretty awesome.

Any way to get rid of the annoying "If You Like the teaser then follow..." thing on the bottom of the screen that never goes away?

[Stephen Smith] "Any way to get rid of the annoying "If You Like the teaser then follow..." thing on the bottom of the screen that never goes away?"

If you mouse over it, you'll see a teeny tiny X in the upper right. But you'll only see it if you mouse over. Careful! Don't click anywhere else!

Hunting for the little X on various screens has become one of my internet hobbies. Kinda like Sudoku or something, except with live ammo, so to speak. Click wrong, and you'll get taken to a really annoying website.

Both stretches the brain and relaxes it, at the same time that it tests eye-hand coordination.

I just thought the trailer was really bad?

Why use old footage?

3rd acts go back to the origins, granted

The question remains: why did they use old footage!?

The Batman vs Bane shot at the end was beautiful

I want more!! x

The new stuff is not ready or gives away too much too soon, likely.

btw, There is a little red word bubble symbol on the bottom of your screen, shaped the same as the youtube logo balloon. That turns off on-screen comment visibility.

This has the feel of a fan made fake trailer - fan made trailers take shots from other movies and cleverly make them fit with what we know about the upcoming movie.

Also the "Every hero has an ending" tags remind me of the Phantom Menace teaser "Every saga has a beginning...every droid has a retraining bolt...every tauntaun has smelly guts...etc"

Seems to be official, just not very interesting IMO.

I'm more focused on Captain America and Cowboys and Aliens, both of which look incredible if you go by the trailers and advance press hype.

I agree I was not blown away by this either, but the few shots of Bane were pretty cool. Probably could have just given us photos and it would have been the same.

Also I just now realized I spelled Knight wrong in the title of this thread. Looks like somebody had a case of the Mondays.

I guess I'm not familiar with Bane, having never read Batman comics. He was not on the 60's tv series was he?
I hope they finally give Adam West his long deserved cameo - 7 Batman movies and still nothing? Not even an extra? They could have used him instead of Morgan Freeman :)

Spoiler about Bane, if you're interested;

Last chance...

Bane is a chemically mutated freak with enormous strength, attained by use of a venom serum that is pumped into him on demand. In the comics, Bane tangles with Batman and literally breaks his back, paralyzing him, and obviously Bruce Wayne at the same time. Left for dead, Batman is recovered by Alfred, who then fakes a car crash to give Bruce Wayne an alibi for being hospitalized. In the comics, Batman's job is temporarily taken on by a number of different supers and crime avengers, some pretending to be Batman, others, not. Bruce/Batman is not happy with how the temps are doing his job. Finally, a cure for his broken spinal column is achieved thru a magical fan-wank faith healing, and Batman's first task on returning to duty is beating Bane.

Bane made a brief appearance in an earlier Batman film, the one featuring Poison Ivy, where their origins were intertwined.

Did the buildings falling apart feel like Inception to anyone? Did they use the same 3D models to save money? I think it looked cool.

I think that is common for the first trailer. Remember Ocean's 12 when they just so the logo. I imagine they really haven't done a whole lot of shooting yet on the film. The super cool trailer that shows a lot will probably come a few months before the film is released. I beat Tim knows how far along they are in shooting the film.

Not only does that look like inception, Joseph Gordon Levitt is in the movie too. There likely will be other similarities.

There will be complaints in the mainstream press about the lack of beloved villains like Penguin and Riddler. But in the dark world of these new Batman films, cartoony characters that were ok in the Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher worlds would seem out of place. Joker worked because he was a deranged self-mutilated makeup-wearing lunatic. Penguin would work if he was a heavily deformed outcast (not so much penguin-like as simply hunched over and bat$#!t crazy) with an axe to grind. Riddler would work if he were more of a serial killer making cryptic messages out of cut up magazine headlines or a junkie who speaks in metaphors. Both of these derangements might have to be so over the top to work that they would distract from the story of Batman coming back from oblivion.

Based upon Mark's description of Bane he seems like the perfect reason for Batman to rise - figuratively and literally.

Tom Hardy, who plays Bane, also one of the main Inception characters.

I'm curious as to how Catwoman (Anne Hathaway) could potentially ruin this movie. Though, I'll give Nolan the benefit of the doubt, he must have something good in mind for her? Right?

And I was kind of hoping for the Riddler, but then I thought it might end up being like the Saw movies; killing people with stupid puzzles. So I'm cool with Bane.

The problem with pretty much every comic book movie is that the studio insists they stuff 90 minutes of hero origin story and Big Bad Battle with more than one villain, whether it makes sense or not, or burns up/uses up good villains or not, or has room to explain the villain's origin well or not. The result is that the villains never get enough screen time to evolve and define their character sufficiently. The Nolan Batman movie spent a LOT of time on Rhas al-Ghul. Then had to throw in Scarecrow without any real explanation of him. The next film was almost all Joker, and that's one reason it worked. Previous Batman and Spiderman movies laid on the villains like the undercard at the boxing matches. A waste. Spiderman suffered a lot by SOny insisting on bringing in the Black Suit/Venom, squeezed into the film with two other villains. Venom/ Black suit should have been it's own movie.

As far as good villains for Bats, my idea for a Bats movie would be that the Riddler is a tough young hacker, actually a teen, brilliant but sociopathic and incredibly vain and egotistical. Partly by pure accident, Batman/Wayne foil a scheme of his, and embarass him, which is the worst thing you can do to him. Then the rest of the movie is Riddler going to war against both Wayne and Batman, not knowing they are the same man, but thru his hacking and the real-world crimes and disasters he perpetrates, getting ever closer to finding that out. The fights take place in the real world of Gotham City as well as in virtual space, as Batman and Lucious Fox try to keep up with a guy that makes "Anonymous" afraid. Riddler makes it personal, tangling with Batman thru Gotham's broadcast media as well as thru the net, and thru elaborate puzzles and stunts set up as performance art and "flash mob" events that turn to tragedy.

There would be no other villains, except perhaps the local Gotham mobsters and street toughs as pawns of Riddler's schemes. There might be a love interest in there on the periphery, though it makes more sense for her to be a mol for the Riddler, his muse, his Harley Quinn, in effect.

They whipped that up pretty quick, too. Must have a pretty extensive knowledge of the animated show.
