PDW700-> Transfer-> MOV?
on May 23, 2014 at 11:35:05 pm

Hey folks,
First time working post side of PDW700.
A friend with the 700 has asked me to take his footage and convert to .mov for client.
Couldn't find anything on the cryptic Sony site, just EX stuff.

What do I need, and how do you do it?
Does the transfer tool re-wrap to mov?

On a Mac Pro 5,1, Mavericks, CS6 (no FCP).

Many thanks in advance for any help pointing me in the right direction.

XDCAM Transfer or Content Browser can rewrap to .mov.

Thanks for the info, Ian.

Turns out the client wants ProRes 422 HQ, so I guess I'll be using Adobe Media Encoder.

Do I still need either XDCAM Transfer or Content Browser?

And do I need the drivers to transcode (but not edit)?

If so, where are the drivers? I found release notes on XDCAM Drive Software v4.0.1, but not the actual drivers.

thanks

No, you can bring the files into Premiere/Media Encoder without any .mov conversion.

If you are transferring from the camera you will need the firewire FAM (File Access Mode) driver. If you use the U1/U2 drive you need the USB driver. JFYI the 'XDCAM Drive Software' is the driver and utility for the portable U1/U2 drives.

Hi Ian,

I'll be using FW to the camera, but the only FAM I see on the link you sent is i.LINK FAM Driver for PDW 1500 and 1600. Is this it?

No FAM under Optical Disc Archive.

And as it's been 10 years since I used FW, what's the safe order of connection?

Thanks!
