From After Effects to XDCam archive
on Apr 29, 2014 at 3:41:47 pm

Hello folks,

I'm probably missing something obvious here but I'm trying to archive to MXF from After Effects CS5 and I'm having a few issues.

I have a 1920x1080 25p project, done completely in AE, and I'd like to tie it in with my shop's (very successful) XDCam Archive routine - from Avid, Export to Device @XDCam HD 50MBps 24bit.

I've found the appropriate export codecs in Adobe and have exported files in .mxf at 1920x1080 25p, and 50i, using the MXF OP1a XDCamHD 50 PAL codec. I would then use Sony Content Browser to transfer these to the disc but Content Browser (ver. 2.00) doesn't natively see them, nor does it allow Import - it returns "Reason: Unsupported Clip."

Does anyone have a successful workflow for getting files in MXF from Adobe onto XDCams (without dragging and dropping to the UserData folder)?

Cheers
Richard

Export using the XDHD codec @ 50 Mb with 8 channels 0f 24 bit audio. If the audio is not correct the file will not be allowed to go to disc. Also I believe there was a version of CS5 where Adobe 'broke' the XDCAM export. Make sure you have the latest available build.

Thanks for the response Ian,

I might be missing something glaringly obvious but I can't find any Export to XDCam option (equivalent to Avid's Export to Device > XDCam).

I had thought that if I export MXF OP1a XDCam HD, Sony Content Browser would be able to Import the file so I could transfer it to the Clip folder on a disc, alongside those exported from Avid using the above method.

I'm running Premiere 5.5.0 and AE 5.5 (10.5.0.253).

Cheers
Richard

Just a thought - I'm running Sony Content Browser 2.0 basic. Do I need the XDCam Advanced or Converter packs to do what I'm wanting to do?

The Op1A Export option is the correct one. Feel free to send me a short clip; I can tell you if Premiere is doing something screwy with the file. Make sure the audio is 8 x 24 for HD422 and 4 x 16 for HD 420.
