Incrementing camera "reel numbers"… possible?
on Apr 24, 2014 at 5:01:38 am

We shoot massive amounts of Xdcam discs, and one of the "WISH FOR" items is the ability for the camera (F800, F900 or any camera for that matter) to automatically "increment" a tape name.
For example: We'd like to preset the tape name to one of our naming conventions: 423A02 for example.
Then, I'd love to see the camera automatically "increment" the next load to "423A03".

Does anyone know if this is possible? If so, how to accomplish it?

Our current workflow is to rename the discs and clips after the fact using XDcam utilities, but I'd love to
see this happen in the camera.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Mark,

Currently this is not possible with XD optical though we can use planning metadata XMLs and other means to load custom file naming templates into the camera. The d-cinema cameras (F5, F55, F65) utilize a cam/reel/take naming structure.

Feel free to email me if you want to discuss further. Ian dot cook at am dot sony dot com..

Cheers
