PC Avid can't read XDCAM OP1a created on Apple

We have the OP1a MXF format listed on our compatible codec submission doc. I ran into a spot today that was transcoded on an Apple (assuming Final Cut or Compressor) in that format but our PC Avid or Premiere Pro would not accept. Is there a trick to creating a cross compatible OP1a on a Apple computer?

What application is creating the file? FCP 7.0.3 or X (with our Export plugin), Episode 6/7, Premiere CS6/CC and Avid Media Composer 7 should all create good files. There was a bug in Media Composer 6.5 that caused it to put some bad metadata into MXF op1a exports. This was fixed in 7.0.1.

What happens when you try to import/AMA the file?

Ian,

I'm on PC Symphony 6.5.2 and I'm assuming the OP1a file came from FCP7.

Here's the error from Avid.

-------- Import error log start --------
Clip (internal): Kirk's_Winter15s-XXX-XXX

Here is the analysis I get from MediaInfo utility of the provided OP1a file.

As a followup I did notice that the original file that Avid rejected because of unsupported resolution lists rez as

Width : 1 888 pixels
Original width : 1 920 pixels
Height : 1 062 pixels
Original height : 1 080 pixels

Would this be the cause of the hiccup?

I'm pretty sure the issue is the video bit rate, which is wrong. Your MediaInfo capture shows a video bit rate of 100 Mbps. While certain devices and encoders (NanoFlash, Episode software etc) can create XDCAM files above the native data rate of 50 Mbps most applications and hardware devices require the file be within the XDCAM specification.

If you want to try a known-good FCP-exported XDCAM file I have a short clip in my Dropbox that was generated by FCP 703: https://www.dropbox.com/s/vo4cdxuvu2vaxws/fcp%20703%20render%20422%2050%205...

This is what the MediaInfo capture should look like:

Let me know...

Ian,

My company firewall doesn't allow dropbox. Can you DM me and I will send you a ftp link to use?
