Retaining CC when copying clips off a disc
on Jul 14, 2012 at 9:05:55 pm

I'm using a Sony PDWU2 to bring files onto my hard drive from XDCAM HD disc. I need them to stay .mxf so I don't use XDCAM Transfer on a Mac. Right now I'm simply doing a finder drag and drop, I have both Macs and PCs.

I cannot use the disc structure in my workflow so I don't use XDCAM Browser.

When I copy the mxf over it doesn't seem to be retaining CC when the file goes out to broadcast. Is this a limitation of the PDWU2 or I'm just not doing something right?

This is a setting. In the U-1 Utility app go to User Settings and enable 'Data Item Out.' If this is de-selected any VANC metadata (captions, audio metadata, aspect flag etc) will be muted when the file is copied.

How does this work with an F75 deck? Is there a similar menu item to check or uncheck?

No, no such menu on the 70/75. If the file has compliant captions they should be retained when the file is moved. The only VANC setup on the 70/75 is for recording (setting the VANC line and DID/SDID values)
