Has anyone recorded files from a Convergent Design Nano or XDR digital recorder, which uses the XDcam format to the Sony PDW-U2?

It has an XDCAM encoding chip in it and can record in the XDCAM codecs. It will also allow you to record with settings that are compliant with XDCAM formats but which cannot be copied to XDCAM media. If you want to be able to play back on an XDCAM disc make sure you do HD422 @ 50 Mb with 24 bit audio. For SxS codecs use 35 Mb with 16 bit audio. If you dial up the data rates or use 16 bit audio with HD 422 or 24 bit audio with EX formats you'll run into issues getting the files onto XDCAM media.

Thanks for the information Ian.

Is it essential to use the MXF wrapper and not the .mov wrapper as well?

Thanks,
Scott

yes, must be mxf-wrapped. mov-wrapped files would have to be rewrapped or otherwise converted using FCP, Episode etc..
