I'm getting close to purchasing a Sony PMW 350L w/Nanoflash. I would also like the option of delivering XDCAM discs. What has been the real world experience transferring nanoflash files to PDW-U1? I've read it's in the neighbor of 1.5X realtime. Is that true? I've also read you have to babysit the transfer. Is that also true?
Thanks for your help.
P.S. How many of you are experiencing clients accepting the CF cards from the Nanoflash as an acceptable "master"?
If, by 1.5x realtime you mean that to fill a 90min disk takes 60mins then yes, that's pretty much dead on.
Not super fast but OK.
What did was to gang 3 x U1 drives off the same Mac Mini and since the Sony XDCAM transfer software is multithreaded and can target multiple U1s at the same time, we would plug up a hard drive of NanoFlash card clones, kick off 3 U1 transfers and let it chug away in the corner of the office for a while.
Doing 3 transfers at ones doesn't take 3x the time - more like 2x I think.
