timecode drift between 2 decks
on Feb 26, 2009 at 5:41:45 pm

I am playing back 2 SRW 5500 decks. I'll cue them to the same timecode and trigger them remotely to play. During play the decks will not stay locked. When I stop the decks the timecode is off.

I have a black busrt generator feeding REF IN on Deck 1 then looping out to Deck 2. I have the decks set to SD ref.

Can anyone help me out?

The only way I've ever had this work is when I've connected the machines to each other via RS422 and faked a machine-to-machine edit. Connect them together over serial control, put one deck in remote, and control it with the other deck (as recorder). Plot the same in-points for an edit, arm the CUE track, and hit PREVIEW. This will roll both tapes back to the same TC point (preroll) and synchronize the playback together at the in-point. They will stay locked in play after that. Sorry if it doesn't help, but this is one way to get it done should you need...
