I work for a post production company as a machine room operator, and we constantly have trouble outputting 720p tapes for some reason. The video lands but it will often not land on the proper frame and can be very unpredictable.
One thing I have noticed that may be the culprit is the signal coming from the Gen10 generator. It is set to 720p 59.94 (i have confirmed this by following the pin configuration charts, and plugging it into my AJA card Ref in recognizes 720p 59.94 signal. The problem is, this doesn't seem compatible with the SRW-5500 decks we use. If I boot the deck in 720 59.94p and send reference from the Gen10, the 'stop' button keeps flashing (indicating a reference error). However if I send the deck 1080i 59.94 reference, the flashing stops (however it still has trouble landing on the right frame).
Anyone have any idea why it would act this way? Am I the only one who has reference issue when doing 720p on the SRW-500?
With the SRW-5500, I always use SD (bi-level) sync for every system setup except 1080/23.976PsF. It's just easier, and the deck likes it. From the manual:
