Lay off without VITC

Can you lay off to SRW-5800 without recording VITC? is there a setting that I don't know about?
The reason I'm asking is because I layed off something the other day and it had no VITC and I am confused why this happened.

This may be a late response to your post, but VITC will always be recorded. What are you looking at that makes you believe there is no VITC? You can change the TC reader on this deck to LTC/VITC/AUTO.
Regardless, just jog frame by frame and you'll be seeing TC based on VITC instead of LTC.

[Chad Brewer] "but VITC will always be recorded"

I just need to correct what I said so I can sleep at night.
You can make recordings without VITC, but VTR's need to be specifically set up to either blank VITC lines or have VITC disabled another way - it's different between VTR's.
So, I really meant that VITC will be recorded unless you go out of your way to not record VITC which is not really standard practice. VITC could also be present and then eliminated by error during a tape to tape transfer.
I have now been challenged by myself on my own post and corrected by, well, myself. Take that Chad!
