Video Capture from SRW-5500 to an iMac
on Sep 17, 2010 at 4:39:38 pm

I'm looking to capture some 1080psf23.98 (4:2:2) HDSR video tapes into an iMac. My usual set up is going from the SRW-5500 to a G5 running FCP6.0.6 using a Black Magic card. I now have a situation where the client wants to use an iMac.

The video files are just proxy files, and do not need to be ProRes. DV would be acceptable.

Any thoughts/comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

The SRW-5500 has two classes of output - one is SDI and the other is basically an analog output for SD monitoring in 29.97.

Since your project is 1080P23.98sF, you will either have to find a deck with a Frame Converter and live withe the 2:3 pulldown editing in 29.97, or you will have to find an SDI interface to access the media.

An iMac?

There isn't even a slot-34 option. AJA IoHD, maybe? Something like that?

You mean "Old Ben"? Ben Kenobi?

I was going to try taking the analog/composite outputs, go through an canopus box to the iMac via Firewire. Didn't work out. Thanks for the suggestions.

Ended up using the Final Cut Pro system in the PowerMac - works every time.
