SRW-5500 forgets stored settings after power cycle...
on Jun 28, 2010 at 9:23:32 am

Hi, has anyone had this problem. Every time we set something in the menus or assign an item to one of the PF menus the deck forgets its settings when it is restarted. Is there a menu setting somewhere which is telling it to default to factory settings when it's restarted? Does anyone know how to stop this from happening?

From the ROM Version menu:
SYS 1 ROM: V3.62
SYS 2 ROM: V3.62
CP ROM: V3.60
SV ROM: V3.62
EQ ROM: V3.50
FC ROM: V3.80
We have the HKSR-5001/20 board installed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is becomeing a real pain!

[Andrew Meek] "Every time we set something in the menus or assign an item to one of the PF menus the deck forgets its settings when it is restarted"

Yes - this is because you are storing your setting in temporary memory and the deck is likely programmed to recall a VTR Bank preset when booting.

[Andrew Meek] "Is there a menu setting somewhere which is telling it to default to factory settings when it's restarted?"

Better yet - change what you want and store your settings, and have the deck automatically recall your settings every time on boot.

Press SETUP
Press VTR BANK
Press DIRECTION to ->
Press SFT + F9 to COPY your current settings to a free slot
EDIT TITLE if you desire

Now to have the VTR recall your setting on power up:

Press SETUP
Press VTR BANK
Press ALT
Press POW-ON-RECALL to choose your setting to be the Power-On setting

Hopefully that clears up any inconsistency.

FYI - there is an update to the firmware for your deck at Sony SSP - not necessary for this, but it's always good to keep up to date.

Thanks Mark, we did actually figure it out in the end - it's those damn "Alt" menus that throw me every time! Will check out the firmware update. Thanks for the help!
