So in Autodesk Smoke and/or Flame you can output 16bit to HDCAM SR. My question is can the tapes really hold all that info? Is it a drastic improvement than laying off the same sequence as 10bit uncompressed in FCP? Thanks.
There may be some more enabling for the SR format with Sony's "slash-2" version, but it really looks as though what is really being offered with the "16-bit" path is really just a 10-bit payload in a 16 bit wrapper.
SR is a 10-bit 4:2:2 format unless otherwise equipped, for example, to record 4:4:4 RGB (Dual link).
