16:9 to 2.35

Hello.
I have an SR tape which is 2.35 in ananaorphic 16:9, if that makes any sense to you. But i I'd like to have the deck squeeze to a 1920x1080 picture with a letterbox, so i get the full black bars on top/bottom. I know this is possible with a HD-SD downconversion, but I can't find an option for just outputting the HD picture like this. I have the SRW-5000. Is this possible ?

The 5500 will not adjust for anamorphic HD. It plays 1920x1080 straight from tape. So if your footage is anamorphic, it will play anamorphic, and there are no options on the deck to change that. You'd probably have to either find a separate hardware device that would allow real-time squeeze of your full-height image down to 1920x816, or capture it as-is and resize in your favorite NLE.

I'd agree with the outboard approach.

If you have a Kona3, you might be able to use it in a pass-through mode and just do a default letterbox.

The math is 2.35 / 1.77777 is 1.32 which is very close to 1.7777/1.33333 = 1.333333 (4/3 squared is 16/9).
