blackmagic design mini converter and SRW5500
on Sep 18, 2008 at 10:53:38 am

Hi,

my whole workflow is hd/sdi based but now my delivery need to be in PAL/Betacam Sp format.

My editing suite is AJA/kona 3 based and i have SONY SRW5500 HDCAM SR deck.

Is the blackmagic mini converter sdi to analog right solution for me?

The SRW5500 has a DOWNCONVERT output on the rear of the unit. In addition, your AJA Kona 3 has built in downconversion. If you need
analog component output of your FCP/AJA Kona 3 sequence, you go into the AJA CONTROL PANEL, select format (secondary) to 525 or 625 for PAL, and use the Y Pb Pr outputs to feed your Beta VTR for delivery.
If you need analog audio, the AJA K3 box will give you analog audio output. If you dont have this, you can use any generic AES to analog converter to get the analog out of the Kona 3 to get analog audio for your Beta VTR.

Not all SRW-5500's have the Frame Conversion option interface which disallows certain kinds of downconversions. That's what I use my Kona3 to do.
