Maxx Digital, Final Share and Red

Just did a Red project using Maxx Digital's Final Share solution installed by Mr. Zelin. Works great, handles the Red footage flawlessly. No hiccups!

not so fast, Mr. Eig -

we were just told that there are issues if you try to read the raw
.r3d files just using the Red codec for FCP. But of course if you transcode RED footage using Red Rushes, Redcine-X, RocketCineX, etc. into something else, there are no issues. Are you saying that you are reading raw .r3d files into FCP just using the Red codec from their website, and that you are having no problems ?

You will also find that your >4Gig log and transfer problem becomes a >2Gig log and transfer problem with Red files. As I have mentioned to you before, Calibrated {Q} from Calibrated Software gets rid of the P2 MXF file format problem, so you can read P2 (and SxS) files without even thinking about log and transfer (eliminating the 4 Gig problem) - but no such plugin exists for RED - at least not yet.

Bob,

I used redrushes to prores work flow. But I did not have any problems reading r3d files or proxies. The 4gb limitation is a moot point as long as you don't use fcp to l&t the red files. That is a limitation of fcp. Redrushes and redalert/cine x don't have this limitation.

I have begged you to try Calibrated {Q} which is a FREE download (for 30 days) from Calibrated Software, to get rid of the 4 Gig file limit problem with P2 files. Have you tried this yet ?

Bob,

Haven't tried it yet as I haven't had any P2 projects to test it will. I'll give it a go when P2 footage comes my way. I haven't forget about it.
