Fill in areas on shape
on Dec 1, 2013 at 6:02:45 am

Hi, I have a shape like this (black is filled shape, no other stroke/ fills applied):

and am trying to find a way to make it so that if I overlay it with another copy it doesn't mash together like this:

I've been bashing my head against this for a while and can't find a simple way to do it. Basically I want to set the outmost borders as a masking area, but the outer path goes so far into the shape that I can't just use that. Any guidance appreciated.

I figured out a relatively quick and painless way. First change the color on one of the objects for better visual contrast, then lock the object you want on top. Then just use the eraser tool and erase the other shape in any overlapping areas.
