Bending a gradient
on Sep 28, 2009 at 3:11:09 am

Hello all,

I'm trying to replicate an aluminum tube which has a somewhat related to a funnel shape. I created a nice gradient which mimics the texture and illumination of aluminum, but I haven't been able to bend the light streaks at the bottom, I tried to create a gradient mesh and also blending several objects, but when there is so many color variations, both options get very tricky and yield poor results.

Does anyone can think of a way of bending the gradient fill to follow a certain path or something like that?

Here's an image of what I'm trying to do, I think it's pretty self explanatory:

Best,

Use blends. Eg, make 4+ lines as in the figure below. Color them appropriately, then blend:

You can also create fancy blends this way, eg a CD/DVD:

Hi Les, thanks for your reply.

Your example is very good, is so simple and practical that made me think: Why I didn't think of that? Clear indicator of a good idea.

Unfortunately I was in a hurry with such project so I ended up creating a gradient mesh that although took me a lot to create it came out nice, but I for sure will try your method next time.

Thanks!

David.
