Rotation point in Illustrator
on Jan 28, 2009 at 11:34:15 pm

Hi there,

This may be a super-basic question but I haven't been able to find the answer yet.

Just want to know if and how you can move the rotation point of an object/illustration in Illustrator?

Basically, I just want to shift it from the middle to a corner (the same way I can shift the Anchor point in After Effects) so I can rotate the object around that corner.

Sorry if this is a no-brainer. Thanks in advance,

ALEX

You can't permanently change the center point. The best you can do is to use the Rotate Tool (R) to move a center point for rotation, but after the you're done with the tool the object will hold it's original center.
Here's something about using the rotate tool...

You could also group your object with a large empty square. Where you would position the main object's desired center-point to the center of the enclosing square...

Of course, you would not use the dotted line in your version. The stroke would be empty.
