How to bend a swatch pattern along with an object
on Nov 14, 2007 at 3:15:21 am

I am looking for a way to bend an elongated rectangle with a rainbow swatch fill so that the rainbow fill curves with the object. I am trying to avoid doing a thousand step-and-repeat slices and making a mask. Is there any way to convert just the fill? (I can always place the object over it in a second layer). Any other means to accomplish creating an ojectively editable rainbow curve would be welcome. I would prefer to have a color-blended rainbow such as the rainbow swatch.

I am using Illustrator CS (v.11). Thanks to all who take the time to reply.

Maybe you're looking for something like this...

These options would require you to create a blended object to use as an Art Brush, as opposed to using a gradient.
The result would give you a fully editable path.
