Matching Type to 3D Objects

I have a photo of a large storage tank that is cylinder in shape and would like to manipulate the text in Illustrator CS2 so that it appears to follow the perspective and shape of the cylinder object, in hopes to create the illusion that the text had been painted onto the object. Unfortunately the text warping features aren't advanced enough to get it just right. Is there another way?

Did you try the text warp (bulge)?

You may want to separate the letters more and play with a blending mode.

Good luck.

Cheers,

Joe

Not exactly what I had in mind. The thing about Bulge is that it bulges from the center, it would be awesome if there were some way to specify a new center point for which to bulge the text, be it further to the left or to the right.
