How does one CUT and PLACE an element from a layer, and have it plop down, in a new layer, in the same spot as whence it came?

This has been bedeviling me for years, but I usually just work around it. No more!!! >;^)

Illustrator or Photoshop??

I might not understand the question - but,

Ctrl+J in Photoshop - add shift to cut/paste to a new layer above.

In AI - select the element and drag the lil right-side colored box on its layer to a new layer. This transfers it to the new layer without moving it.

There's lots of ways of doing this - does that help?

Cheers,

Photoshop. (7) Thank you very much.

CTRL-J it was. That info in hand, I went to see if i could reasonably have expected to have FOUND that information without the kind assistance of other users.

The answer was: no, the Help files do not, IMNSHO, reasonably make this information findable. YMMV.

WHY "Paste In Place" is not the DEFAULT behaviour of "Paste", I cannot concieve.

Yeah - I almost NEVER want something pasted to be offset, yet in nearly all programs it defaults to it - silly-ness I tell ya.

Glad I could help!
